Do Scarecrows Scare Crows?

Our reporter interrogates this corvid-demeaning myth

The Daily Kina

Kina and I both feel that we have collectively been sold a bill of goods regarding the shiftiness of crows and the corresponding necessity of scarecrows. She is, like many of us, not even confident that the scarecrows are scary. I reassured her that the crows are safe and seemingly unperturbed, but that daddies are deeply skeptical of our straw-stuffed friends. “Scaredaddies”, maybe, but leave our clever crow friends be.

Another garden! Mommy painted the bougainvillea here, and Kina painted all the gourds and the vast, clear sky. Thanks to Sloanie for the paint this week!
